EdilOne – La community dei protagonisti dell'edilizia

L'architetto statunitense nasce ad Indianapolis nel 1934.
Studia all’università di Cincinnati nell'Ohio e all’Harvard University. Nel 1960 vince il Prix de Rome; studia e lavora come ricercatore all'Accademia Americana di Roma per due anni.
A seguito del lavoro svolto come "Architect in Residence" all'Accademia Americana di Roma, nel 1962 diventa presidente della "Society of Fellows" e professore alla Princeton University. Avvia la libera professione a Princeton.
Il suo lavoro è presentato, insieme a Peter Eisenmann, Charles Gwathmey, John Hejduk e Richard Meier al Museum of Modern Art di New York da Kenneth Frapton mentre qualche anno dopo sarà pubblicato il volume Five Architects che consacrerà la fama di un gruppo che ha come principale riferimento le avanguardie artistiche del razionalismo ed in particolare le prime opere di Le Corbusier.

Graves, in particolare, pone l'accento sull'ambiguità della forma architettonica con un continuo lavoro di montaggio e scomposizione dei volumi, oltre all'impiego appassionato del colore.
Negli anni 1964/70, egli tiene conferenze in America e in Europa, e diventa 'Visiting Professor' di molte università.
Fino al 1972, nella pratica professionale Graves, iscritto all'American Institute of Architects, realizza molti progetti d’edilizia residenziale, centri ospedalieri, palazzi per uffici, centri culturali ed anche lavori d’urbanistica.
Intorno al 1975, egli abbandona uno stile moderno, per indirizzarsi verso uno stile più eclettico.
La sua vasta produzione vede tra le sue opere recenti il complesso turistico realizzato per la Walt Disney in Florida, oltre a numerosi hotel ad Euro Disney, ad Antwerp, in Belgio, sempre attenta all'impiego dei materiali naturali ed in particolare della pietra.
